Semi-Recessed Vanity Basins

Semi-recessed basins are designed to be used on a narrow cabinet, while still allowing for a full size bowl. They also look great on a full depth cabinet. The basin is partially recessed into the benchtop, with the bowl extending out from the cabinet or bench.

Semi-recessed basins are normally used in small bathrooms where space is limited. Semi recessed basins are installed by cutting a hole in the benchtop and top fixing rail of the cabinet (the bit above the doors) so the basin will sit recessed into the cabinet.

SEMI-RECESSED BASIN DESIGN:
• There are many designs available to suit traditional, contemporary and modern bathrooms.

• Semi-recessed basins are mostly made from porcelain or vitreous china.

• Semi recessed basins have an apron (front of the bowl) that extends below the benchtop. The top fixing rail of the cabinet will need to be wider than the apron to allow the cabinet doors to open.

• Due to the shallower cabinet depth you will lose some storage space.

SEMI-RECESSED BASIN SHAPES:
• The standard shapes for inset basins are round, oval, square, rectangular or semi-circular.

• Many rounded or curved designs will have a flat back edge and a semi-circular bowl to maximize the space of the basin.

• The look of the basin is very important, so is the practicality of it, make sure the basin you choose is easy to use for your particular application.

• Most square semi-recessed basins will have pointed corners, bear this in mind, especially with small children.

SEMI-RECESSED BASIN SIZE:
• Sizes will range from small round or semi-circular basins, to large rectangle or oval basins capable of serving 2 or more people at once.

• The apron depth (the part of the bowl that sits in front of the cabinet) will vary between semi-recessed basins. You need to make sure the basin doesn’t extend down over the doors or drawers.

• The depth of the cut out (the part of the bowl that is recessed into the cabinet) will also vary so make sure it will fit your benchtop properly, allowing space for bench mounted tapware if required.

• Make sure the semi recessed basin will fit onto the vanity cabinet or bench, particular the width. Ensure there is enough room beside the basin for storing everyday items.

TAPWARE FOR SEMI-RECESSED BASINS:
• Semi-recessed basins are available with 1 taphole for a standard mixer tap, 3 tapholes for conventional tapware, or no tapholes.

• No taphole basins require the tapware to be either wall mounted, or a tower mixer tap is mounted directly to the benchtop.

• Make sure before choosing an inset basin you know what tapware options you can choose. You may already have the plumbing set to a particular type, e.g. Wall mounted tapware.

• If the tapware is being bench mounted, make sure your have adequate room, either behind or beside the basin for the tapware to fit
