Inset Drop-In Vanity Basin

Inset vanity basins have a low profile rim which, when set into the benchtop, creates a clean streamline look to the bathroom vanity. They are available in styles to suit a traditional, contemporary or modern bathroom.

Also referred to as a drop-in basin or self rimming basin, this type of basin is very common in older Australian bathrooms, but is still a favourite due to its practicality and versatility.

Inset vanity basins are installed by cutting a hole in the benchtop and the basin is dropped into the benchtop so the bowl of the basin sits below the bench, with only the basin rim sitting proud.

INSET BASIN DESIGN:
• There are many designs available to suit traditional, contemporary and modern bathrooms.

• Traditional style inset basins will generally be oval in shape and have soap holders moulded into the basin. Those for the modern bathroom can be round, oval, square or rectangular with very clean lines and no moulded soap holders.

• Inset basins will generally be made from porcelain or vitreous china, however they are also available in acrylic and stone.

INSET BASIN SHAPES:
• The standard shapes for inset basins are round, oval, semi-circular, square or rectangular.

• Inset basins are also available in a combination of the standard shapes to create a more interesting look.

• The look of the basin is very important, so is the practicality of it, make sure the basin you choose is easy to use for your particular application.

INSET BASIN SIZE:
• Sizes will range from small round basins, to large rectangle basins capable of serving 2 or more people at once.

• The depths of the bowls will vary greatly from shallow, almost flat waterplanes, to deep bowls ideal for shaving in.

• Some inset basins are available with a slightly higher rim, giving the basin a similar look to a vessel basin. • Make sure the inset basin will fit onto the vanity cabinet or bench, particular the width. Ensure there is enough room beside the basin for storing everyday items.

• You will need to ensure the placement of the bowl doesn’t interfere with the operation of any drawers underneath.

TAPWARE FOR INSET BASINS:
• Inset basins are available with 1 taphole for a standard mixer tap, 3 tapholes for conventional tapware, or no tapholes.

• No taphole inset basins require the tapware to be either wall mounted, or a tower mixer tap is mounted directly to the benchtop.

• Make sure before choosing an inset basin you know what tapware options you can choose. You may already have the plumbing set to a particular type, e.g. Wall mounted tapware.

• If the tapware is being bench mounted, make sure your have adequate room, either behind or beside the basin for the tapware to fit.
